Browns receive near-perfect grades for Myles Garrett trade with Rams

The Cleveland Browns made the massive decision to trade away Myles Garrett this offseason, sending him to the Los Angeles Rams for a huge package.

After such a huge move, it's not a surprise that many different analysts handed out grades for both sides of the deal. In trading away Garrett, arguably the best defensive player in the NFL right now, it would not be a surprise if the Browns received some criticism.

However, Jeff Howe of The Athletic and Seth Walder of ESPN both handed out near-perfect grades to the Browns for this Garrett blockbuster with the Rams.

Browns receive near perfect grades for Myles Garrett trade

"Browns grade: A+," Howe writes. "The Browns probably didn't lose any value by holding onto Garrett a year or two too long."

Howe's grade showered the Browns with praise, as Jared Verse is "... already a star with the potential for more." Add in the 2027 first, 2028 second, and 2029 third round picks, and the Browns come out of this trade with a good young player and valuable picks.

"The Browns needed to get younger and cheaper across the board to give themselves a chance to compete until the books are cleared of the Watson carnage," Howe writes.

This trade of Garrett, getting off his big contract, and adding a ton of draft pick value and an ascending edge rusher in Verse warranted an A+ from Howe.

Walder also handed the Browns a high grade, giving Cleveland an "A" for their trade of Garrett to the Rams for three picks and Verse.

"It's a mighty acquisition for Los Angeles, but it's a massive return for Cleveland -- more than should have reasonably been expected, even for Garrett," Walder writes.

Walder values Verse greater than a first-round pick on his own, so in Walders' point of view, the Browns just traded Garrett for more than the value of two first-rounders, a second-rounder, and a third-rounder.

Both of these grades give the Browns significant praise for this Garrett trade, which is rare for a team to receive such praise after trading what might be the best player in the NFL at his position.

However, the massive return the Browns got for Garrett has made the trade worthwhile for Cleveland. With their timeline not for a little while, and with the financial and draft flexibility from this trade, along with Verse, this was a great trade for Cleveland, according to multiple NFL analysts.
