The Cleveland Browns likely aren’t going to declare their starting quarterback for the 2026-27 season anytime soon.
However, on Monday, 92.3 The Fan’s Ken Karmen stated that he believes that the No. 1 QB job in Cleveland is Shedeur Sanders’ to lose. Even more encouragingly, Pro Football Focus’ Max Chadwick recently predicted that the Browns would add a 14-touchdown national champion wide receiver to assist Sanders in Year 2.
“The Browns need to build a better supporting cast for whoever their starting quarterback ends up being, as they produced the worst PFF pass-blocking grade and the second-worst PFF receiving grade of any team last season,” Chadwick wrote last Monday. “Tate would help fix the latter, as his 151.8 passer rating when targeted in 2025 led all college wideouts.”
Tate declared for the NFL Draft on Jan. 6 following a three-year collegiate career with Ohio State in which he improved his receiving yards and touchdowns each year. Tate, who recorded 14 touchdowns with the Buckeyes from 2023 to 2026, is expected to be a first-round pick due to his alluring contact balance, high-point catching ability, and space-creating chops.
Although Tate may not be a standout receiver in the NFL from the get-go, he has the upside necessary to give an up-and-coming or established franchise hope for his long-term future.
Hopefully, for Sanders’ sake, that franchise is the Browns.
