Browns minicamp is Shedeur Sanders 'final' chance to win QB job over Deshaun Watson

The Cleveland Browns might not be a Super Bowl contender this upcoming season, and they might not have a ton of eye-catching talent after trading Myles Garrett, but their quarterback competition this summer is one of the more interesting storylines to watch.

Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson are both vying for the starting QB job in 2026 in Todd Monken's first year as head coach. With the revamped offense, getting this starting job is imperative for the future of both QBs, but especially for Sanders in year two.

As ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi notes, the mandatory minicamp for the Browns will be Sanders's "final" chance to prove he's deserving of the starting job this upcoming season.

Sheduer Sanders has one final chance to prove he deserves Browns QB job

"With the entire offense present, mandatory minicamp will be the final opportunity for both quarterbacks to leave a lasting impression," Oyefusi writes.

Mandatory minicamp for the Browns begins on June 8 and runs through June 11. These next few days will be Sanders' best chance to prove he deserves the starting job.

While it initially looked like things were heading towards Watson as the starter, things have been trending in the opposite direction lately, with Sanders gaining ground.

The 2025 draft pick has a real chance to win the starting QB job this year, and if he can put together a strong mandatory minicamp, that might be all he needs to do to earn Monken's trust as the QB1 for 2026.

Since the plan has always been to figure out the starting quarterback for the Browns before training camp begins later this summer, this is the last chance to win this QB1 battle.

Sanders, who got a Pro Bowl nod in his rookie year, is trying to stave off Watson amid the expensive veteran's return from injury.

It's a fascinating quarterback competition, and while there's no indication one way or the other for who will win at the moment, this might be Sanders's best chance to earn a starting job in the NFL during his career.
