All of the factors are pointing towards the New York Knicks winning the NBA Finals. No team that has gone up 2-0 in the road has ever lost and they are also heading to Madison Square Garden. But, Victor Wembanyama is an anomaly among all of humanity for a reason. This is why Mikal Bridges posits that their squad should still be wary of the San Antonio Spurs despite having history on their side.
Bridges drops huge praise for Wembanyama ahead of Knicks-Spurs Game 3
Mikal Bridges is not one to gloat about being ahead until the job in the NBA Finals is finished. He learned that the hard way when the Phoenix Suns were also ahead 2-0 against the Milwaukee Bucks but proceeded to lose four straight games and give up the Larry O'Brien trophy. This is why the Knicks wing acknowledges that Victor Wembanyama is someone special in the league and cannot be underestimated.
He posits that the Spurs young gun is unmatched despite the Knicks having the NBA Finals lead, via Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic.
"His length is unmatched and he’s got good IQ. It definitely causes trouble. He’s DPOY for a reason," Bridges declared.
Wembanyama, despite the Spurs being down 2-0 in the NBA Finals, has still produced at a high level. He is averaging a career NBA Playoffs-high 27.5 points on a 40.5% clip from the field. The Knicks have also been bothered by his defense which gets 1.5 steals and 3.5 blocks a night alongside a whopping 10.5 rebounds. The wins just are not coming but the numbers are there for Wembanyama which is why the Knicks remain wary of him.
So far, the game plan by Coach Mike Brown is to make Wembanyama a non-factor on both ends of the floor through spreading the Knicks in the corners. The plan has worked to the advantage of Jalen Brunson, Bridges, and the rest of the Knicks but there surely will be adjustments introduced so that the Spurs can strike back in this NBA Finals series.
