Browns' management showing interest in Bill Belichick for NFL job

The Cleveland Browns are 3-11, and things haven't gone well this season. While Myles Garrett is playing at a higher level than any pass rusher in NFL history, the rest of the roster is still lagging.

Kevin Stefanksi and Andrew Berry might be on hot seats, but for now, the Browns head coach and general manager don't look to be on their way out. But if they were fired, an interesting opportunity could arise.

According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, there are those within the upper-level management of the Browns organization who still have a fondness for Bill Belichick. While nothing is close, there is interest from the Browns in bringing Belichick back to the NFL.

Browns management 'still fond' of Bill Belichick for NFL role in 2026

"I'm told there's been recent interest expressed, at the very least, in speaking with Bill Belichick on an exploratory basis from two teams, per league sources," Anderson reports. "My understanding is Belichick has upper-level personnel still fond of him in Atlanta, New York, Cleveland, whilst all struggling teams going through customary evaluations this time of year."

If the Browns are one of the two teams showing interest in Belichick, and there are supportive voices within the organization, then a potential addition of Belichick to the Browns cannot be written off just yet.

Belichick would likely be returning to the Browns as their head coach, but Anderson does allude to the potential for Belichick to take on a general manager role in certain scenarios.

Despite a shaky season in the NCAA with the North Carolina Tar Heels, Belichick is drawing interest from around the NFL, including from the Browns.

He spent the first five years of his coaching career with Cleveland, going 36-44 for a .450 winning percentage. His best season was an 11-5 1994 campaign, and after going 5-11 the following season, he left to join the New England Patriots.

New England won't be bringing Belichick back with Mike Vrabel leading a resurgent team, and while the Atlanta Falcons could move on from their head coach, a one-and-done for Raheem Morris is a bit premature.

The New York Giants are an option, but it's left to be seen how the Giants plan to conduct their head coaching search with a young core of offensive pieces to build around.

Cleveland, on the other hand, is a defense-first team, and while Shedeur Sanders has shown some intrigue, there is still a major issue with the offense as a whole.

This interest could wind up going nowhere, especially with Stefanski's job still not fully on the hot seat. Cleveland might not part with their core organizational structure this offseason, meaning Belichick, unless he takes a complementary role, wouldn't be an option for the Browns.

But this report from Anderson is one to keep in mind as the offseason approaches and the Browns consider making coaching and front office changes. Belichick could be an option for Cleveland as a coach or front office exec after the 2025 season.
