The Cleveland Browns finally debuted their quarterback Deshaun Watson on Sunday in the team's season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but things didn't go too well.
Watson and the team fell to the Jags in a huge way, ending the game with a 34-10 loss. Now, this wasn't all Watson's fault, of course. His stats showed 16 completions on 22 attempts for 205 yards, one touchdown and that one costly interception. That may not sound bad, but it doesn't tell the whole story, and it was a blowout win for the Jags with plenty of people in the Browns' camp to blame.
Now, following the team's Week 1 debut, the Browns have found themselves where no team wants to be at this time of year or ever.
Browns land at No. 32 in NFL power rankings
Now that the NFL's Week 1 has wrapped up, Nick Shook of the NFL's official website has released his list for NFL power rankings heading into next week's games. For the Browns, he has them dead last. That's not pretty. He doesn't mince words here, either.
"Last year, Cleveland's defense managed to keep the Browns competitive in a bunch of games," Shook notes. "Week 1 informed us that a different story will play out in 2026. The offense was horrendous with Deshaun Watson under center."
He adds, "The Browns hurt themselves by committing 11 penalties, and their defense resembled little more than a sieve against Trevor Lawrence's Jaguars. It's looking like it'll be a long season on the shore of Lake Erie."
It's easy to see why Shook put them last in the rankings. But, it's only one game, and things could absolutely turn around. Not to give anyone in the Browns' camp false hope, but a lot can happen between now and December.
