Browns HC reveals uncertain starting QB plan Preseason Week 1 vs. Bears

Heading into the NFL preseason, the Cleveland Browns are going to be a very interesting team to watch. Seeing what Todd Monken decides to do with the team's quarterback room is the big story this August.

Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson are competing for the starting job, and whoever starts the first preseason game against the Chicago Bears might appear to have the advantage. But who is starting that game?

Andrew Siciliano from Browns camp shared that Monken is still undecided about who the Browns will roll with as their Week 1 preseason starter at QB. But, he did also reveal his plan that guarantees both QBs will get a chance to start.

"Todd Monken says Shedeur Sanders will practice with the 1s today, unless I change my mind on the way out.' Monken says he hasn't decided on who will start in Chicago," Siciliano shared.

Monken has been uncertain about who he's going to go with as the starting QB for the first preseason game, but if he is giving Sanders the chance to work with the No. 1s during the practices leading up to the game, there's a good chance he earns the start.

But, for now, there is some uncertainty about who will start the Browns' first preseason game this year in Chicago against the Bears.

Whoever starts that game will seemingly have the leg up on the QB competition. But, Monken shared his QB plan that likely means the Week 1 preseason starter doesn't actually have a massive advantage: "They're each going to start a game."

Sanders and Watson will both earn a start for the Browns during the preseason, with one start coming against the Bears on Saturday, August 15, while the other would likely get their starting chance on Saturday, August 22, in preseason Week 2.

It would stand to reason that, after those preseason games and before the preseason finale against the New England Patriots, Monken will make his decision on the team's QB1, and they will start that final preseason game before the regular season.

This quarterback competition is truly wide-open, with both Watson and Sanders having realistic chances to win this job. It's a very fascinating battle to follow, and it might not have a conclusion for a little while, either.
