Browns, Giants named 'best option' for potential Saints QB trade fit

The New Orleans Saints quarterback competition is set to begin with Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler, and Tyler Shough, at least as of now. Derek Carr's retirement left some questions in the QB room, and all reports suggest that Aaron Rodgers is not an option.

Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com essentially put any Rodgers possibility to be bed, saying this: "No surprise here, but Aaron Rodgers never really was a consideration for the Saints in the wake of the Derek Carr retirement. At their current stages, they don't make sense for him, and he doesn't make sense for them."

So, where does that leave them? Duncan mentioned some trade options for the Saints in what he called as their Plan B, and the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants as trade partners that could emerge.

The Saints’ best option might be to wait out the competitions in Cleveland and New York to see whether a better option such as Winston, Kenny Pickett or Joe Flacco materializes via trade. But make no mistake, that’s Plan B, a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency contingency situation.

Jameis Winston signed with the New York Giants, although the Giants also brought in Russell Wilson and drafted Jaxson Dart in the first round, so Winston could be made expendable.

The Browns' QB situation has been widely discussed after they drafted rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, so one of Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett could be a trade option for the Saints.

The question is, does Kellen Moore prefer one of Flacco, Winston (in a weird Saints reunion) or Pickett instead of one of the young options?

Who knows.
