NBA fans reacted to the Indiana Pacers' decision to cut point guard Mac McClung on Thursday. ESPN's Shams Charania reported that McClung was let go by the team after appearing in three games in the 2025-26 NBA season. During that stretch, the reigning Slam Dunk Contest champion averaged 6.3 points and 1.3 rebounds on 38.9% shooting.
Indiana is reportedly replacing McClung with a veteran point guard. Charania reported on X that the team is signing undersized guard Monte Morris following the release of McClung.

Before McClung was waived, the Pacers were already dealing with a plethora of injuries to their roster. Tyrese Haliburton is expected to miss the entire season due to a torn Achilles tendon recovery. Bennedict Mathurin, T.J. McConnell, Andrew Nembhard, Obi Toppin, Kam Jones, Quenton Jackson and Johnny Furphy are all out.
Head coach Rick Carlisle said that two players are out indefinitely for the Pacers
The 2025-26 season isn't an easy one for the Pacers. They have dealt with various injuries to the team, which has played a significant role in their 1-7 start. Ahead of their 112-103 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, head coach Rick Carlisle revealed that two players are out indefinitely.
Indiana's Johnny Furphy and Quenton Jackson were the latest additions to the injury report, and both players have no timetable. The team has an upcoming road trip that starts in Denver on Saturday. The coach confirmed that both players won't be part of the trip.
After being one of the best teams last season, the Pacers are a different group this campaign. Injuries have affected their performance, making them one of the worst teams this year. But that could chance once everyone recovers well from their setbacks.
