The Denver Broncos have at least one move to make at the running back position this offseason.
In 2025, the Broncos rolled with a duo of rookie RJ Harvey and veteran J.K. Dobbins, but Dobbins is a pending free agent and isn't guaranteed to be back, especially after he once again succumbed to injury.
If Dobbins doesn't return, the Broncos will need a veteran running back and Seth Trachtman of YardBarker predicts Denver will spring for a trade for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.
Here's Trachtman's thoughts on his prediction:
Sean Payton is still fond of his old Saints players, and few had a bigger impact during his time than Kamara. He's clearly on the backend of his career, playing only 11 games and accumulating 4.0 yards per touch last season, but he could be a viable trade option to complement RJ Harvey.
As Trachtman points out, Kamara played under Broncos head coach Sean Payton for five seasons and posted some of the best numbers of his career in that span.
However, that's about where the logic in this prediction stops.
For starters, Kamara has made it quite clear he only wants to play for the Saints and if he doesn't stay there, he would rather retire. Perhaps he would bend the rules a bit for Payton and a contender like the Broncos, but that remains to be seen.
Another issue is Kamara is coming off a down season that was plagued by injury, and with the veteran set to turn 31 in July, it is possible his best days are behind him.
Add in the fact that Kamara will cost draft capital and is set to make a base salary of $11.5 million and it makes less and less sense for the Broncos to go this route, even with a solid financial situation in terms of cap space.
What the Broncos should do is target a veteran in free agency, and preferably one who is a better complement to Harvey than Kamara would be.
Denver needs a grinder who can do the dirty work between the tackles and at the goal line and that simply isn't Kamara's strength.
