F1 fans online have reacted to football icon Jose Mourinho’s “seven or eight titles” remark about Lewis Hamilton. The Portuguese manager compared the legendary driver to S.L. Benfica, highlighting their shared ability to bounce back from adversity as he sought inspiration from Hamilton.

The football and F1 worlds collided as Mourinho took inspiration from Hamilton during a press conference recently. He also commented on the 40-year-old having "7 or 8 titles" in a comment that amused fans.

"Benfica’s history shows that while at times it comes from behind, most of the time it doesn’t. Lewis Hamilton arrived late in the last two Formula 1 World Championships but he’s got seven or eight titles, he doesn’t always arrive late. He’s the F1 driver with the most championships, I believe," said Hamilton.

F1 fans online have shared their reaction to this comment by the ex-Chelsea manager, with Hamilton fans backing what he said.

"Bro just talking but he lowkey cooked," said one fan. "seven or eight titles? Is he real? 😭," noted another user.

"Always been saying people know he has 8 titles FIA records dont mean s*** when record keepers are corrupt to the core," said another fan.

Here are some more reactions:

"So, he simply knows nothing about F1. And looking at his recent results (by recent, I mean over a decade) he doesn't know about football, too," said another user.

Lewis Hamilton will be looking forward to a comeback of sorts in the 2026 season after a tough start to life at Ferrari in 2025. The ground-effect era has not been kind to the veteran, and he will be hoping to get things right in the new era, especially if Ferrari gives him a competitive car.

After comparing Lewis Hamilton to Benfica, Jose Mourinho drew another parallel between football and F1, this time likening Ferrari to Real Madrid. The 62-year-old explained that both organizations carry immense pedigree, but working for them also comes with enormous responsibility.

Speaking about his former club while drawing the comparison to Ferrari, Mourinho said (via Marca):

"Ferrari is the Real Madrid of Formula 1. At Real, they say that when you put on the white jersey, you’re already winning 1-0. It’s the same with Ferrari, when you step onto the track, you win." "But while wearing red is a dream, it is also a huge responsibility," he added.

Scuderia Ferrari is desperate to rediscover that winning feeling heading into the 2026 F1 season. The team last claimed the constructors’ championship in 2008, while Kimi Raikkonen remains their most recent drivers’ champion, having won the title in 2007.

Now, the most successful team in F1 history is turning to the sport’s most successful driver, Lewis Hamilton, to help lead a return to the top, alongside Charles Leclerc, who is entering his prime.
