Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski says Cristopher Sanchez 'deserves' to start All-Star Game

The Milwaukee Brewers have seen Jacob Misiorowski turn into an ace this season and one of the best pitchers in all of Major League Baseball. He's the current NL Cy Young favorite, and he also would be the favorite to start the All-Star Game.

However, his current schedule would make him ineligible to pitch in the All-Star Game, as he's slated to pitch Sunday, a few days before the All-Star Game. Cristopher Sanchez is the likely starter, despite Misiorowski likely deserving such an honor.

But, Misiorowski told USA Today's Bob Nightengale that Sanchez "deserves" the All-Star starting honor, and that it would be "cool" for the Phillies ace to pitch in front of his hometown fans in Philadelphia for the All-Star Game.

Jacob Misiorowski thinks Cristopher Sanchez 'deserves' All-Star starting job

"I think he deserves it, especially with the game being in Philadelphia," Misiorowski said. "It'd be cool for him to start in front of his home fans."

While both Misiorowski and Sanchez are deserving of this All-Star starting job, the Brewers ace believes that Sanchez is worthy of the nod, especially considering the chance to start the game in his home ballpark.

Sanchez is the likely starter, as Nightengale also reported that Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts plans to make Sanchez the starter for the All-Star Game in Philadelphia.

Between this reported plan with Sanchez and the odds of Misiorowski being eligible to pitch in the All-Star Game, dependent on a game's postponement, it's looking likely Misiorowski will not get to start the All-Star Game.

But, he's not beat-up about it, evidenced by his comments, thinking that Sanchez, the likely All-Star starter, deserves this honor.

If there weren't any scheduling complications, and this All-Star Game were not in Philadelphia or Milwaukee, Misiorowski would likely be the starter.

This season, he has a 1.47 ERA with 156 strikeouts and a 288 ERA+, all the best marks in baseball. Across 104 innings this season, Misiorowski has a 1.96 FIP and a 0.779 WHIP, both the best in baseball as well.

Sanchez has a 2.00 ERA in 117 innings with 136 strikeouts and a 225 ERA+ with a 2.31 FIP and 1.086 WHIP. He has 5.7 bWAR compared to Misiorowski at 4.2, but that doesn't tell the full story.

While it's looking like Misiorowski won't start, nor pitch in the All-Star Game, he does think that Sanchez deserves to start the All-Star Game, and clearly wouldn't be miffed if the Phillies ace got to start the All-Star Game in his home ballpark.
