Brent Pry buyout, contract details as Virginia Tech Hokies coach

2 hours ago 3

The Virginia Tech Hokies have a decision to make.

Brent Pry and his football team are 0-3. They just lost to in-state rival Old Dominion out of the Sun Belt Conference. This might be it.

If it is, the Hokies will have to pony up a bit of cash to move on.

But at this point, would anyone blame Virginia Tech for doing just that?

Brent Pry buyout terms

Virginia Tech would owe Pry $6 million if it bought him out at the end of the 2025 season.

The number would be a bit higher if he was bought out during the season. That's because his contract says he's owed 70% of the base salary on his contract for all but the final year (which is 50%). So a mid-season buyout, as he's being paid $4.75 million this season, could up the ante by a couple million.

Pry has Virginia Tech off to its worst start since 1987, which was the first season with Frank Beamer as head coach in Blacksburg before he raised the entire program up.

At Virginia Tech, Pry has a 16-24 record.

Brent Pry contract details

Pry originally signed his contract in 2021, a six year and $27.5 million deal.

It's slated to run through 2027.

His salary raises to $5 million per year for both 2026 and 2027.

At this rate, it's hard to see Pry getting there.
