Brent Brennan says Arizona enters Colorado showdown ‘angry’ and ready for a fight

Brent Brennan walked into his weekly media session with the look of a coach who knows what’s waiting for him in Boulder, a sold-out homecoming crowd, the altitude, and a Colorado team that’s still dangerous no matter what the record says.

“Every game in this conference is a freaking battle,” Brennan said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s the first-place team or the last-place team. Every week, you’ve got to be ready to play.”

Coming off the bye week, Arizona used the break to reset. “Our players attacked this bye week with a much different edge,” Brennan said. “There was physicality, there was anger, and I like that. They’re pissed off about Houston. They’re upset about not finishing against BYU. The fact that they’re attacking the opportunity to improve? I’m all for it.”

The off week wasn’t just about film and fundamentals. The Wildcats spent time in the community reading in schools, packing snack bags for kids, and showing up at volleyball matches. “It’s always great for our players to engage the city of Tucson,” Brennan said. “They enjoy it, and they’re better for it.”

Asked about Colorado, Brennan kept perspective. “They’ve lost to two top-10 teams at home in Georgia Tech and BYU, but they’ve gotten after everybody else there,” he said. “We know what kind of atmosphere we’re walking into.”

He spoke with visible respect for Deion Sanders, who’s fought through major health issues this year. “Coach Sanders is such a private person, even if you don’t think that from seeing Coach Prime,” Brennan said. “I have an incredible amount of respect for him. He’s a really good guy and fun to talk to, [always] got something to say, and great insight.” He laughed recalling one failed attempt to call him. “Some random person texted back, ‘Can you tell whoever this is that I’m not who you think I am?’ Apparently they’ve got his old number.”

As for his own team, Brennan sees a quarterback hitting stride. “By December, everyone in the conference is going to be talking about Noah Fafita,” he said.
