Chris Jericho is now done with AEW after over six years with the company, as his contract with the company expired. Y2J has also been rumored for a WWE return for quite a while.

During the inception of AEW back in 2019, Chris Jericho was one of the first wrestlers to sign with the company. He also went on to become the first-ever World Champion in the promotion and helped elevate the company as well. For over six years, Jericho was a vital part of the promotion but has not been on TV since April 2025.

It was recently reported that Jericho's contract with All Elite Wrestling will be up by the end of 2025. As the year 2025 ends, Jericho is no longer under contract with AEW heading into the new year, 2026.

Amid his AEW contract expiry, Jericho has been rumored to be heading for a WWE return as well. It was recently reported that Y2J could show up as soon as the January 5, 2026, episode of RAW.

Chris Jericho has done everything in AEW, according to WWE legend

The WWE legend, Matt Hardy recently claimed that Chris Jericho has done pretty much everything creatively during his time in AEW. Speaking on his Extreme Life podcast, Matt also stated that the All Elite fanbase would be up to seeing Jericho in the main event mix anymore:

"I almost think it's one of those things where I just think the AEW fanbase has had their share of Jericho in many ways, and I think creatively he's done pretty much everything he can do there. I mean, unless they want to put him back into the main event mix, but I don't think the fanbase would be up for that, even though they could probably make that work in some capacity," said Hardy.

It remains to be seen if Jericho returns to the WWE sooner rather than later.
