Shortly after returning to AEW earlier this year, Andrade found himself put out of commission due to a legal situation with WWE. While his path back to the Jacksonville-based company is not yet very clear, El Idolo has just captured yet another championship, this time at a major promotion in Puerto Rico.

Andrade's disappearance from AEW programming in the wake of his return to the company on the Sixth Anniversary edition of Dynamite was followed by reports claiming that WWE had sent All Elite Wrestling a cease-and-desist letter. This was supposedly done because the former NXT Champion had seemingly violated the terms of his year-long non-compete clause, which had been in effect as the star had been fired due to multiple "wellness violations".

During a recent interview, the luchador clarified that he was engaged in legal talks with WWE to resolve their contractual dispute. The negotiations are still ongoing, but yielded some positive results recently, as El Idolo was able to perform for the Puerto Rican promotion World Wrestling Council. This Saturday, Andrade battled and unseated Xavant for the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship.

Before his legally-imposed hiatus, the erstwhile La Sombra had also become The Crash World Heavyweight Champion by defeating DMT Azul this past October.

AEW CEO Tony Khan on Andrade's future

During his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show last month, Tony Khan spoke about Andrade amidst the latter's legal situation with WWE. The AEW head honcho heaped praise on El Idolo, claiming that he was "thrilled" to have him back in the company, noting that he would be keeping an eye on the star's status, and stating that the latter was welcome back to All Elite Wrestling whenever he becomes available.

"I had a great experience with him, and he left on the best of terms. And now, when he said he was free and made his one night appearance, I was thrilled to see him again. Anytime he's free – whenever that is – he is absolutely always welcome… It is an interesting situation that I am going to keep an eye on, but I absolutely think the world of Andrade El Idolo,” Khan said.
