Braves named a top landing spot for projected $63 million Dodgers World Series champ

The Atlanta Braves have been relatively quiet this offseason after losing the National League Wild Card Series to the San Diego Padres.

While they have a solid foundation coming back in 2025, they have suffered some big losses with both Max Fried and Charlie Morton signing elsewhere.

They have an obvious need for starting pitching, and there are fortunately several arms still left unsigned. One such arm is right-hander Jack Flaherty.

Flaherty recently helped guide the Los Angeles Dodgers to another World Series title this past fall and he remains one of the top unsigned free agents.

Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report lists Atlanta as a potential fit.

"The Braves were B/R's original prediction for Flaherty when the offseason began, and considering they've lost both Morton and Max Fried this winter, Atlanta still makes a ton of sense for the 29-year-old righty," Kelly wrote.

"On paper, the Braves starting rotation could be one of the best in baseball. However, Spencer Strider is returning from an internal brace procedure that cost him almost all of the 2024 season and won't be ready for Opening Day. Meanwhile, Chris Sale and Reynaldo López carry quite a bit of injury risk."

Flaherty went 13-7 with a 3.17 ERA in 28 starts last season. The Detroit Tigers flipped him to the Dodgers at the trade deadline after a hot start to the year.

He was able to remain healthy for most of 2024, and if he can stay healthy in 2025, he still has the potential to be a frontline starter. The Braves also need to make some moves if they want to keep up with the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets.

The team went 89-73 last year and earned the second NL Wild Card. But the NL East is a tough division, and they need to find a way to keep pace with their rivals.

We'll see if they decide to target Flaherty.
