Bo Nix injury update: Adam Schefter reveals Denver Broncos QB's return timeline

The Denver Broncos were dealt devastating news following their divisional round win over the Buffalo Bills last week.

That devastating news was quarterback Bo Nix suffering a broken ankle, which will keep him out for the rest of the postseason, which forces the Broncos to start Jarrett Stidham in his place for the AFC Championship Game versus the New England Patriots.

On Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter provided the latest update on Nix's return timeline, which gives us insight into when the Broncos quarterback will be recovered from his injury.

Bo Nix injury update

According to Schefter, Nix will be sidelined for 12 weeks after undergoing surgery for his broken ankle.

So, while that means Nix won't be making a miraculous comeback for the Super Bowl if the Broncos advance, he will at least be close to ready to return by the offseason program and his status for the start of the 2026 campaign won't be impacted.

"Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, who is out for Sunday's AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots, is expected to be sidelined 12 weeks after undergoing surgery last week on his broken right ankle, sources told ESPN," he reported.

Schefter goes on to add that the recovery will be the most challenging part for Nix, as he can't put any weight on the ankle for at least four weeks.

This is the third time Nix has suffered a broken ankle, but it's his first in the NFL. A source told Schefter that there is "nothing to be concerned about long term."

The Broncos will now deploy Stidham in Nix's place, and Sam Ehlinger will be backing up Stidham.
