Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is one step away from achieving childhood dream in World Series

The Toronto Blue Jays are back in the World Series for the first time since 1993, and there's one thing standing in their way: The loaded Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Blue Jays won Games 6 and 7 of the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners at home to advance to the World Series.

Now, led by their superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto is four wins away from their first World Series ring in franchise history.

Guerrero one step away from childhood dream

Guerrero was born in Canada while his dad, Vladimir Guerrero, was playing for the Montreal Expos. Guerrero Jr. grew up in the Dominican Republic and the Blue Jays were the team to give him a chance.

Now, it's blossomed into one of the best stories in sports.

"I was born here. I grew up in the Dominican, and then from the moment that I signed here, that I knew I was going to be here my entire career," Guerrero said through interpreter Hector Lebron (h/t MLB.com). "I knew that somehow I had to make all the fans, the entire country, proud of me, of my team.

"And like I always say, my challenge is to bring the World Series here back to Canada."

It's safe to say Guerrero Jr. has done all of those things except for one. He's won over the home crowd, and made them proud. Now, he needs to finish the job against the Dodgers.

Prior to the 2025 season, Guerrero Jr. signed a 14-year, $500 million contract that should essentially keep him in Toronto for the rest of his career. Now, in his first year of that contract, Guerrero has the Blue Jays four wins away from a World Series championship.

"He’s the face of the franchise. I remember a conversation, it was me and Max [Scherzer]. This was back in April in [my office]," manager John Schneider said (h/t MLB.com). "We talked about, ‘Hey, you’re the standard now for this team’ and what comes with that, how you have to act, how you have to talk. He’s been great.

"He’s just been very, very aware of everything that’s going on, which is very hard to do when the spotlight is on you."

Guerrero has put up outstanding numbers this postseason, hitting .442 with a 1.440 OPS. That would be great if it was over 10, 20 or even 30 plate appearances. But, the Blue Jays' star has done this across 11 games and 51 plate appearances.

The Blue Jays' superstar has six home runs, six walks, 12 RBI and 40 total bases this postseason and was named ALCS MVP.

You could see the emotions on Guerrero Jr.'s face as he teared up when the Blue Jays got the final out of the ALCS, and now he can finish the story book ending with four more wins against the Dodgers.
