Blue Jays skipper makes important Anthony Santander announcement

The Toronto Blue Jays have started to play better recently, winning four straight on a West Coast road trip.

After sweeping the Seattle Mariners, the Blue Jays have to feel a bit more confident heading into the bulk of the season, sitting just three games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East after struggling for much of the year.

For the Blue Jays, however, getting healthy has to be something that starts to go their way in the near future. After making the moves they did during the winter, the hope was for the Blue Jays to be one of the better teams in baseball.

Instead, they've been derailed by injuries to some of their veterans, and some of the others they've signed have also been performing at a low level while dealing with those injuries.

That includes Anthony Santander, who's hitting just .196.

Santander went down with a shoulder injury against the Los Angeles Angels before missing the series against Seattle. However, according to skipper John Schneider, this was more of a precautionary thing, and the Blue Jays expect him to be ready to go against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.

"Anthony Santander missed all three games of the Seattle series. His shoulder “felt cranky” after falling into the right field seats in Anaheim. Santander should be good for Tuesday’s game against the Rays, the manager said," Mitch Bannon wrote.

Perhaps a few days off is all Santander will need to get back on track. He started swinging the bat at a bit higher level over his last three games before going down with an injury, getting five hits in that span with a home run.

When the Blue Jays signed him, they hoped he'd be the same type of player he was a year ago for the Baltimore Orioles, where he hit 44 home runs and posted a 132 OPS+. For now, he's been the complete opposite of that.
