The Toronto Blue Jays suffered a heartbreaking loss in the World Series, losing in seven games. While they went out in heartbreak, the Jays may have gotten at least some positive news.
According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the Blue Jays are expected to re-sign their star shortstop, Bo Bichette, who has been the center of free agency and trade talks for a while now.
“Bichette, who was expected to depart Toronto a year ago and whose name surfaced a year ago in trade talks now is expected to stay put to complete their goodwill tour,” Nightingale wrote.
This past season, Bichette slashed .311/.357/.483/.840 with 44 doubles, 18 home runs, and 94 RBI in 139 games played. He was also a playoff hero, where in game seven, he blasted a three-run dinger of Shohei Ohtani to give the Jays the lead.
If the Jays can keep Bichette on a long-term deal, that would give them two superstar hitters under contract, in Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., for a while. If they can also re-sign him early in the offseason, it will allow them to address other concerns.
Hopefully, the Jays will lock down Bichette as soon as they can. Otherwise, other contenders needing a superstar hitter will throw money at Bichette like crazy.
