Blue Jays make roster move following Alejandro Kirk injury update

On Friday afternoon, the Toronto Blue Jays suffered two losses, one at the hands of the Chicago White Sox and the other as their star catcher, Alejandro Kirk, departed the game early after getting hit by a foul ball.

While Kirk went in for X-Rays following his early exit, the results have come back, and it’s not looking good for Toronto. According to the team, the Mexican catcher suffered from a left thumb fracture, which will land him on the 10-day IL.

This is a certain loss for Toronto, as Kirk was a key part of their success last season, slashing .282/.348/.421, with 15 home runs and 76 RBIs to his name. It isn’t what the 27-year-old was hoping for, either, as it will bring what was a tough start to the year for him to a sudden halt, as he has only three hits to his name so far.

The Blue Jays call up Kirk’s replacement

As it was alluded to on Friday afternoon, the Blue Jays could end up using Brandon Valenzuela, who is currently with Toronto’s Triple-A affiliate, the Buffalo Bisons, in Kirk’s absence.

It appears that is the decision the organization is going to take, as Valenzuela has been recalled from Buffalo and will be active for the second match against Chicago, according to the team. So far with the Bison this season, Valenzuela is slashing .200/.294/.400 with a single home run to his name.

The Blue Jays are set to take on the White Sox on Saturday afternoon, with first pitch slated for 2:10 p.m. EST.
