The Toronto Blue Jays currently are in possession of the second American League Wild Card spot with a 42-36 record.
They have bounced back into contention following a disappointing 2024 season. But there are needs that they'll have to address soon.
The Blue Jays are getting Max Scherzer back from the injured list on Wednesday, but he is aging and has struggled with his health in recent years.
Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report listed potential suitors for Boston Red Sox right-hander Walker Buehler. Toronto was on the list.
"As for whether two AL East rivals would really hook up on a trade, let's just assume the usual playbook wouldn't apply here. As Buehler is a rental without much value, neither Boston nor Toronto would have to go into a potential trade spooked about the long-term ramifications," Rymer wrote.

Trades between two division rivals are exceptionally rare, but they can happen from time to time. Buehler would essentially plug a hole for the Blue Jays and would allow them an insurance policy in case Scherzer lands back on the IL.
Buehler himself is not having a good season with Boston. He is 5-5 with a 6.29 ERA in 13 starts, but he does have a track record of performing well in the postseason.
The 30-year-old is a two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion. He even closed out last year's World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the New York Yankees.
We'll see if the Blue Jays show any interest in the veteran right-hander.
