Blockbuster Dodgers trade idea lands Tarik Skubal in stunning proposal

5 hours ago 3

The Los Angeles Dodgers are always on the hunt for a big-time star. While they had yet another successful offseason, adding two of the best players on the market in Edwin Diaz and Kyle Tucker, they could be far from done in terms of adding to their All-Star lineup and roster.

The Dodgers are always looking to improve, and one player who has been on their radar for over a year now is Detroit Tigers ace, southpaw Tarik Skubal.

This blockbuster trade idea sees the Dodgers landing Skubal, but it comes at a steep cost — the loss of two of their top prospects in the process. Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report concocted the trade, framing it as the ultimate win-now for the Dodgers, who are seeking a three-peat.

Dodgers receive: LHP Tarik Skubal

Tigers receive: OF Zyhir Hope and SS Emil Morales

"What's more, all five of their top-100 prospects are actually top-50 prospects. That gives them leeway to beat any offer any other team might make. This hypothetical one of Hope (No. 28) and Morales (No. 32) just happens to be balanced.

"They project as power hitters in the outfield and on the infield, respectively. That should appeal to the Tigers, who have largely struggled to hit for power ever since Miguel Cabrera aged out of his prime in the mid-2010s."

Dodgers may prioritize proven star over prospects

While the Dodgers would be cutting ties with two prospects who could help them in the long run, Los Angeles is all about grabbing stars and players who could help them right away. Skubal fits that bill.

Skubal has been tied to the Dodgers for what seems like an eternity. This upcoming offseason, Skubal will become a free agent, and with the Tigers struggling mightily this offseason, the 29-year-old is a prime trade candidate for the team.

The California native is having another stellar season despite the lack of team success. Skubal has posted a 2.70 ERA, 45 strikeouts, 0.94 WHIP, 2.10 FIP and a 156 ERA+.

While those numbers are slightly down from last season, it's clear he remains one of the best pitchers in the league.
