Bills predicted to make deadline trade for 20-TD veteran wide receiver

The Buffalo Bills are in the market for a wide receiver. Though Buffalo's passing offense was productive in the team's 28-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, the receiver room continues to underwhelm outside of Khalil Shakir.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on October 28 that the Bills are making calls for a receiver. There are a few potential options on the market, but The Draft Network's Justin Melo predicts general manager Brandon Beane will pull off a trade for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.

"Tight end Dalton Kincaid was the Bills' leading receiver in Sunday's win. Quarterback Josh Allen is spreading the football around, but more talent at wideout would upgrade the passing game. Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade on multiple occasions this year and would immediately be an asset in Buffalo," Melo wrote.

Meyers' departure from Las Vegas is inevitable, as the veteran receiver is on the final year of his deal and publicly stated in October that he wants to be traded to a new team. The 28-year-old also requested a trade in August after failed contract negotiations.

"I got no control over that [a trade]. If I'm here, I'm here. Oh, for sure [Meyers' response when asked if he wants to be traded]. But I'm a professional at the end of the day. I'm just trying to play good football."

With Las Vegas sitting at 2-6 and last in the AFC West, it would be wise for general manager John Spytek to move on from veteran players on expiring deals. Meyers fits that description and is also clearly unhappy.

In seven games this year, Meyers has tallied 33 receptions for 352 yards. However, he had a career year in 2024, posting 87 receptions for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns. The former undrafted free agent has tallied 4,944 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns in his seven-year career so far.

Buffalo could use a player like Meyers, as the NC State product would be a savvy security blanket for quarterback Josh Allen and give Joe Brady's offense another reliable weapon.

Additionally, there is zero risk in trading for Meyers. The former New England Patriot will be a free agent in the spring, and a late Day 2 pick and early Day 3 pick should be enough for the Bills to acquire him from the Raiders.

The Bills' receiver group just isn't championship-caliber. Adding Meyers would provide a much-needed boost to the position group and bring Sean McDermott's squad a step closer to being the top team in the AFC.
