Bills' 'most realistic scenario' for Keon Coleman this offseason revealed

The Buffalo Bills haven't been particularly noisy so far in free agency, and cap space may prevent that from changing.

But in the meantime, they've also got a big decision to make on Keon Coleman.

After a pair of disappointing seasons, particularly in 2025, the second-round WR was also thrown under the bus a bit in an offseason press conference by Buffalo owner Terry Pegula.

So what now? A trade, a cut, or nothing?

It's all on the table, as it should be, but one option is above the rest.

Ryan Miller of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, which covers the Bills extensively, writes that the "most realistic scenario" for Coleman is simply to keep him.

"Coleman is entering the third season of a four-year rookie contract and is only about six months older than multiple top wide receiver prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft," Miller writes. "His $2.7 million cap hit for 2026 ranks 66th among NFL wide receivers and will drop down the list after free agency and the draft. Coleman still has size and athleticism, and the Bills’ receiver room has room for him. Buffalo traded for D.J. Moore to pair with Khalil Shakir, but Coleman could compete for the No. 3 receiver role and remain a red-zone threat. Keeping Coleman is a low-risk move with at least moderate upside."

Miller writes that a trade is the second-most likely option, followed by a release.

Given Coleman's cap hit being so small, the Bills gain almost nothing by cutting him, unless he became that problematic in the locker room.

It seems that new head coach Joe Brady and Bills QB Josh Allen both like Coleman and want to see him succeed. If Coleman does indeed stick around for the 2026 NFL season, it'll be the most critical campaign of his career.
