For a couple reasons, the Buffalo Bills' contract decision on Tuesday with kicker Tyler Bass made sense.
But first, the details.
The Bills have agreed to a restructured deal with Bass, in which there's some compromise.
Bass has taken a $1.5 million paycut, according to Over The Cap, but in return, the Bills have guaranteed that Bass will earn at least $1 million this season no matter what, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
That money hadn't previously been guaranteed, but now if the Bills cut Bass, he knows he'll get at least $1 million for the season.
Pelissero adds that incentives can get Bass back up to a solid kicker payday:
"The Bills and kicker Tyler Bass agreed to a revised contract that includes $1 million guaranteed and a chance to earn up to $3.5M in 2026. Bass missed the 2025 season because of injury, so a pay cut was inevitable. But he can earn it all back though incentives and an escalator."

Bass was an odd one for the Bills throughout the 2025 season.
A preseason injury wasn't initially shared to be a season-ender, but then he ended up not kicking the whole regular season or postseason.
It probably didn't cost the Bills in a major way, because the veteran Matt Prater did a valiant job filling in.
Still, the Bills had made a solid commitment to Bass, and not having him felt like a bit of a step backward at kicker.
Buffalo will hope Bass is healthy and ready to take his role back, and do it well, in 2026.
