Bills head coach rumor could lead to battle with Steelers, Ravens over same candidate

The Buffalo Bills' head coach search has begun and the team's interest in one coach could lead to a battle with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Bills have requested an interview with Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.

Russini points out that both the Steelers and Ravens "continue to show strong interest" in Weaver.

"As the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers continue to show strong interest in Anthony Weaver for head coach, the Buffalo Bills have also submitted a request to interview the Dolphins defensive coordinator for head coach, per sources," she reported on Wednesday.

The Steelers have already completed a virtual interview with Weaver, and they are now expected to do a second, in-person interview with the defensive play-caller, which means he's a finalist for Pittsburgh's vacancy.

Meanwhile, the Ravens have completed an interview with Weaver and he is also expected to get a second one, so he has a legitimate shot to land Baltimore's job.

Weaver is a two-time defensive coordinator, serving in the same role with the Houston Texans in 2020 before getting the Dolphins job in 2024.

His best season came in his first with Miami, when the Dolphins' defense finished fourth in total yards allowed per game, 10th in points, ninth in rushing yards and ninth in passing yards.

Weaver fits the mold of the kinds of head coaches the Steelers like to hire, which is defensive-minded, first-time head coaches.

If we're ranking the three job openings, we'd definitely put the Bills at the top of the list thanks to the presence of Josh Allen.

Baltimore would fall in second place with Lamar Jackson, while the Steelers bring up the rear given their uncertainty at quarterback and aging roster.
