The first chink in Kansas City’s armor has officially been exposed.
Jim Nantz labeled it the play of the season, and while that’s firmly up for debate, Josh Allen’s touchdown run to seal the Bills' 30-21 win at Orchard Park on Sunday did put a line through one of Kansas City’s most impressive long-standing stats.
Entering Sunday’s AFC showdown, the Chiefs had previously held their last 31 opponents to 28 points or less, last giving up 29 to the Las Vegas Raiders way back in Week 5 of the 2022 season.
Honestly… that was awesome. Good for the Bills.. that was big. And its the 1st time in 31 games the Chiefs have given up ove 28 points
— trey wingo (@wingoz) November 18, 2024With the Bills looking like they might need to settle for a field goal before turning the ball over to Patrick Mahomes, Allen ripped off perhaps his most famous superman run on a gutsy 4th and 2 play, rushing for 26 yards to go up by nine with just over two minutes to play.
Allen, who has now rushed for five touchdowns on the season, said after the game that the play calling went a long way to handing the Chiefs their first loss of the season.
“Appreciate coach McDermott for trusting the offense,” Allen told CBS on the field.
“We had a man play, they dropped out into zone, they had something good for it. I was just trying to make a play.”
— Buffalo Bills (@BuffaloBills) November 18, 2024Allen was far from flawless on the night, throwing his fifth interception late in the first half. But his ability to air the ball out and hook up with a range of receivers - the most noteworthy being a 10-yard strike to Khalil Shakir that eventually led to the game-winning touchdown - went a long way to securing a famous Bills victory.
“We made some mistakes, had some throws I wish we had back. But we’re 9-2 going into the bye week, so I’ll take it” Allen went on to say.
The Bills return from the bye to play the 49ers at home in Week 13 before back-to-back road games in Los Angeles and Detroit, the latter already being labeled as a potential Super Bowl preview.
