Bills could have new wide receiver trade option after latest Commanders rumor

6 hours ago 1

The Washington Commanders are reportedly open to selling off players at the trade deadline and that could give the Buffalo Bills a new wide receiver to target.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Commanders "have been open to trading several players," including offensive linemen Andrew Wylie and Nick Allegretti.

"Sources: The Commanders have been open to trading several players, including OL Andrew Wylie and OL Nick Allegretti, both of whom bring extensive starting and playoff experience," Schultz reported.

While he wasn't mentioned in Schultz's report, wide receiver Deebo Samuel is a logical trade candidate for the 3-6 Commanders, who saw their season come to an unofficial end on Sunday night thanks to a brutal injury to Jayden Daniels.

Acquired in an offseason trade with the San Francisco 49ers, Samuel is set to be a free agent in 2026 and chances are he isn't in Washington's long-term plans. If that's the case, it makes total sense to move him now.

Despite fears over his demise following last season, Samuel has played well in 2025. Granted, he only has 367 yards through eight games, but he has missed one contest this season and didn't have Daniels for three others and was forced to catch passes from Marcus Mariota in those games.

The Bills' need for a wide receiver is abundantly clear. Khalil Shakir's production is down, Joshua Palmer is hurt and has been a disappointment overall and Keon Coleman has not come close to living up to the hype he entered 2025 with.

While Samuel isn't the true No. 1 wide receiver the Bills need, he would still be a massive upgrade over Coleman and Palmer. His 367 receiving yards would rank third among Buffalo's pass-catchers, and second among wideouts.

Samuel is also a Swiss-Army knife with his ability to line up all over the field, including in the backfield. He would add another element to the Bills' offense.

The Bills would have to figure out the financial part, seeing as how the team has just $1.6 million in cap space.

But if general manager Brandon Beane can work the numbers and the price is right in terms of draft pick compensation, the Bills should absolutely take a swing on Samuel at the deadline.
