One of the top priorities for the New Orleans Saints this offseason is adding more help for quarterback Tyler Shough.
Shough came on late last season and showed a ton of promise and now it's on the Saints to continue to put him in a better position to succeed.
Part of that process is adding more weapons in the passing game, but the Saints have not been successful in doing that just yet, which has been one of the more disappointing things about New Orleans' offseason thus far.
One avenue the Saints could explore is a trade with the Buffalo Bills for wide receiver Keon Coleman, Mike Kadlick of Sports Illustrated writes.
"Enter the Saints, who could use a developmental No. 2 target behind Chris Olave for second-year quarterback Tyler Shough to work and grow with," Kadlick said.
"Outside of the aforementioned Olave, New Orleans’ leading receiver last season was tight end Juwan Johnson, followed by Rashid Shaheed—who was traded to Seattle at the deadline."
Drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, Coleman has been a huge disappointment over two seasons.
While he has shown flashes, Coleman hasn't effective on the field overall and he has had some lateness issues that have led to him getting benched multiple times over two years.
Making matters worse, owner Terry Pegula blamed the outgoing coaching staff for drafting Coleman, which was the exact opposite of a vote of confidence.
"I'll address the Keon situation. The coaching staff pushed to draft Keon," Pegula said back in January. "I'm not saying [general manager] Brandon [Beane] wouldn't have drafted him, but [Coleman] wasn't his next choice."
"That was Brandon being a team player and taking advice of his coaching staff who felt strongly about the player. And you know, he's taken -- for some reason -- heat over it, and not saying a word about it. But I'm here to tell you the true story," Pegula added.
Safe to say, Coleman could use a change of scenery and going back to Louisiana, where he's from, would likely appeal to him.
After adding DJ Moore this offseason, that increases the chances the Bills might be willing to part ways with the young wideout, who should come cheap in a trade given how down his stock is.
It remains to be seen if the Saints would be able to help Coleman rebound, but with the lack of moves New Orleans has made at wide receiver this offseason, taking a flyer on the 22-year-old makes sense if the price is right.
