Bill Belichick urges NFL to make major change after 56 years

Bill Belichick is preparing for his second year at North Carolina, but comments about his NFL career resurfaced this week. The GOAT coach was asked his thoughts on the transition to college and what it takes to excel by Jim Gray on the Let's Go podcast.

Belichick leaned into talking about all the outstanding players he has coached over the years, from his days with the New York Giants to most recently with the New England Patriots. But there was one former MVP that he believes has earned a unique spot in NFL history.

Gray brought up the Lombardi Trophy, which was named after the famed Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi following his death in 1970. Belichick then advocated for the NFL to change the name of the game's most coveted prize.

"Maybe they should name it the Brady Trophy," Belichick said. "He won seven of them."

Big Bill might be onto something here. Could it be time to retire the Lombardi label for a modern idol? Especially given that many current players couldn't name the accomplishments of the original Packers teams. As the game evolves, certain aspects should as well.

Brady and Belichick won six Super Bowls together in New England before he won his final one in Tampa Bay. The Patriots' dynasty will forever be tied to the dynamic QB and coach relationship. They will both be enshrined in Canton one day and be remembered for generations to come.
