Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has expressed his mind on the deadline trading of linebacker Logan Wilson to the Dallas Cowboys. The Bengals exchanged Wilson for a 2026 seventh-round pick on Tuesday.

Wilson, who was drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, has been a captain of the Bengals’ defense. Taylor said in a release by the franchise announcing the trade:

“I appreciate everything Logan has done as a player and as a person during his time in Cincinnati. He has been a central part of our defense over the past six years, and he will be remembered as a leader in our locker room. I wish him the best moving forward.”

The Cowboys acquired Logan Wilson in a bid to reinforce their defense. Just hours before the trade, the team had fallen to a 27-17 loss against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday. Jacoby Brissett, the Cardinals’ backup quarterback, got the better of Dallas’ defense, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another.

The Cowboys’ defense has been one of the worst-performing in the league after losing Micah Parsons in a trade with the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys have conceded an average of 30.8 points per game this campaign, standing at No. 31 in the NFL. They finished last season in the same position with a 27.5 points per game average.

The Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, expressed a sense of urgency to close deals by the deadline, pointing out past mistakes. He said:

“I have a natural urgency because of my age. My immediate tomorrows are a big thing to me… I’m satisfied that I can make good decisions. I’ve made some bad decisions, obviously, being trite. I am supremely responsible for where we are right now.”

Looking back at Logan Wilson’s time in Cincinnati

Logan Wilson was a pillar on Cincinnati’s defense for multiple NFL seasons after getting selected by the Bengals in 2020. He led the Bengals in tackles each season from 2021 to 2023. He also leads the league in interceptions over the past five-and-a-half seasons with 11 interceptions.

The 29-year-old missed the final six games of last season with injuries and has not fully integrated back into the team’s defense ever since. A lack of playing time led him to request a trade recently, finally getting his wish on Tuesday.
