Bengals dealt brutal Joe Burrow injury update

2 hours ago 3

The Cincinnati Bengals could ill-afford any injuries, and in the 31-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the one player the franchise couldn't lose was taken off the field midway through.

Joe Burrow was forced off the field with what looked like an ankle/foot injury, and the fact that he didn't return to the game told us that it was somewhat serious, with Jake Browning taking over and leading the Bengals to a win.

We didn't know the extent of Burrow's injury as the entire fanbase held its collective breath, but now we know, and it is not good news.

Per Jeremy Rauch of Fox Sports, Burrow is believed to have turf toe and has torn ligaments, which likely sees him out for a number of weeks.

That's yuck.

Looking at the Bengals' upcoming schedule, things could get dicey from a playoff perspective, with the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, and Green Bay Packers on the way for Cincinnati.

Bengals' playoff hopes now in the balance

Despite the Bengals being 2-0, the franchise is set to be without Burrow for a handful of weeks, but can Browning keep the ship afloat until Joe gets back?

That will be the hope, but looking at the caliber of opposition, it looms as a daunting task.

Cincinnati couldn't afford an injury to Burrow, and now it has it, with some reporting anywhere from four to six weeks as a possible return timeline.

That is brutal, and by the time Joe returns, he might have to run the table just for the Bengals to be in with a shot at playoff football.

Two weeks in, and the football gods are already making their presence known in Cincinnati.
