The Chicago Bears will be relying on a young wide receiver to support quarterback Caleb Williams in 2026.
With D.J. Moore's departure to the Buffalo Bills via trade, Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III are set to be the Bears' top two receivers, with Kalif Raymond as WR 3 and Jahdae Walker, rookie Zavion Thomas, and others also on the roster.
Though Odunze and Burden have a ton of promise, and the depth behind them is solid, the Bears could use another established player in the receiver room. That's why the team has been named an ideal landing spot for one of the top remaining free agents at the position.
Bears connected to Stefon Diggs in NFL free agency
Sports Illustrated's Gilberto Manzano listed Chicago as the best team fit for Stefon Diggs.
"Perhaps the Bears take a chance on Diggs because they need an experienced wide receiver after trading DJ Moore to the Bills," Manzano wrote.
As the New England Patriots No. 1 receiver in 2025, Diggs tallied 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. However, the veteran was cut after the season and has yet to find a new home.
Though Diggs has lost some explosiveness and has dealt with off-the-field stuff lately, the 32-year-old showed last year that he can still be productive and impactful.
Diggs would be a seamless fit in Ben Johnson's offense and bring just what the Bears need at receiver. The five-time Pro Bowler's savvy route running and versatility to play in the slot and on the boundary would make him a reliable security blanket for Williams, which is something a young quarterback always loves to have.
Additionally, Diggs' experience would be a major plus, as the Maryland product would be a nice mentor for Odunze and Burden.
A receiving trio of Odunze, Burden, and Diggs, along with Coltston Loveland and Cole Kmet at tight end, and D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai in the backfield, would set Williams up for success in 2026. Chicago has just $11 million in cap space, but that should be enough to sign Diggs and add a veteran pass-catcher for their ascending signal-caller.
