Bayern Munich hand contract extension to Vincent Kompany following strong start

8 hours ago 1

Bayern Munich are in scintillating form having won all of the 11 games this season across competition with their latest win coming in the Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund.

Given their current form, the Bavarians are expected to defend the Bundesliga crown, but things will get exciting as they face tougher teams in the Champions League

However, looking at the start to the 2025/26 season and how well Vincent Kompany has gelled with the team and the management, Bayern extended his contract until 2029.

His original contract was until 2027 but given his exceptional work at Munich, the Bayern Munich bosses decided to reward the 39-year-old Belgian.

Kompany came to Bavaria during a time of chaos with the club sacking their last two managers in quick succession. Also, a lot of fans and pundits were skeptical about Kompany's managerial expertise as he got relegated from the Premier League with Burnley

Despite all the outside noise, Bayern Munich hierarchy showed trust in the Belgian and he repaid the faith by regaining the Bundesliga last season and instilling a style of play that the Bavarians were known for.

What did Bayern boss Kompany say after contract extension?

Kompany has restored calmness and confidence at the Bayern Munich camp which was filled with chaos when the Belgian walked in as the club went through tough times with successive sackings.

He deserves a lot of credit for bringing that aggressive gameplay back to Bayern which has helped them win the Bundesliga last season and DFL Supercup at the start of this season.

"I'm grateful, honored, and would like to thank FC Bayern for the trust and the working environment they have offered me from day one. It feels like I've been here much longer and that I understand the club well. It's been a great experience so far; we've started a wonderful journey. Let's keep working hard and celebrate many more successes," Kompany told Abendzeitung after extending his contract until 2029.

Sporting director Maximilian Eberl has hailed Kompany as a role model at the club for the players, fans and everyone at the Sabener Strasse as they want to extend this association for many years to come.

"I'm very happy about this extension: When we signed Vinny, we had a clear idea of our path together, and he quickly proved that he could take FC Bayern forward - on and off the pitch. He's a role model who unites players, fans and everyone at the club, and we want to develop something with him in the long term," Eberl stated.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer feels this contract extension is a vote of confident from the club for the great work he has done since his appointment.

"The contract extension with Kompany is a strong vote of confidence from the club after his outstanding work to date, as well as a clear sign of continuity and stability at FC Bayern. Kompany is highly valued by the players, the club management, and the fans. We are delighted about the extension of our collaboration," Hainer equipped.

Bayern Munich will take the field against Club Brugge in Champions League on Wednesday, October 22 at the Allianz Arena as they are desperate to extend their perfect start to the season.
