Ava DuVernay is shining the spotlight on her love.

Indeed, the Selma director went public with her relationship at the 2026 Oscars as she made her red carpet debut with her boyfriend.

When asked by Essence to fill in the blank on the red carpet of the March 15 ceremony, in response to “I am proud of myself for…," Ava beamed as she held her man’s hand and replied, “Right now I am proud of myself for coming to the Oscars with my honey.”

“Who I’ve kept hidden for a long time,” the 53-year-old added, while smiling at him, “and now he’s here.”

Ava and her boyfriend proved they were the perfect match as he coordinated his classic navy blue  tuxedo with her navy blue Louis Vuitton gown.

After the ceremony, Ava and her love kept the romance going as they arrived at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party where they held hands while walking the carpet.

But this isn’t the first time Ava has teased her latest chapter, as the couple made their Instagram debut while saying goodbye to 2025.

“A few of the many magnificent moments of 2025,” Ava wrote in part alongside the photo Dec. 31 Instagram carousel that featured a picture of her and her boyfriend sitting cheek-to-cheek and smiling for the camera. “The hands I’ve held. The paths I’ve crossed. The places that have welcomed me.”

The When They See Us creator has been open about her personal life, previously sharing insight into her decision to not get married or have kids.

"Because I'm not asking for that,” she said on the Unusual Suspects with Kenya Barris and Malcom Gladwell podcast in January 2025. “If you're looking for a husband to stand by while you're off doing these things, I think you're going to have a harder time.”
