Athletics' John Fisher shares $500 million projection that bodes well for free agency

The Athletics are steadily closing in on their future home in Las Vegas, with the 2028 season expected to be the debut year for the new ballpark.

For this A's team, it's going to be important to have a good start in the city and become a franchise worth rooting for as well. To do so, they need to spend a bit in free agency to bolster the roster.

Fortunately, USA Today's Bob Nightengale shared a projection from John Fisher that would have the expected revenue reach around $500 million, which would put the A's in conversations with top revenue teams around MLB.

Athletics get $500M projection with good free agent omen

"Fisher has told associates that he expects to receive about $500 million in revenue their first year in Las Vegas, which would be the sixth-highest in baseball," Nightengale writes.

Such a massive revenue return for the A's would be great news for their potential free agent plans. Having so much money to play with, the A's might be able to finally make some legitimate runs at top-tier free agents.

Nightengale notes that this $500 million mark is behind only the "Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, and Boston Red Sox, according to Forbes."

While Fisher might not spend a ton of money this upcoming offseason, as it's still a year ahead of the revenue expected to come in by playing in Las Vegas, the 2027-2028 offseason might be a busy one for the A's.

This A's lineup is already in a great spot, and if they can extend Nick Kurtz for a very long time and add some top-tier pitching talent in free agency, this Athletics club could be good during their first seasons in Las Vegas.

While it hasn't been great in recent years, especially with the move away from Oakland, the future of the Athletics appears bright if Fisher commits to using this huge revenue on improving the roster.
