The Athletics received an outstanding pitching performance from left-hander Jeffery Spring on Thursday, who had no-hit stuff. Springs took a no-hitter versus the New York Yankees into the seventh inning until first baseman Ben Rice singled to right field.

Springs’ performance — striking out six and walking one — helped the Athletics get their first 1-0 shutout victory over the Yankees since April 25, 1979. It is also the Athletics' first at the Yankees' home field since July 14, 1972, according to MLB’s Sarah Langs

The Athletics had had chances to score more runs on Thursday to pad their lead, with infielder/designated hitter Max Muncy having two extra-base hits in four at-bats. Muncy had a triple to right field in the seventh inning and a double to left field in the ninth inning.

Springs came over to the Athletics in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2024, along with left-hander Jacob Lopez. The Rays received two minor leaguers and right-hander Joe Boyle.

The New York Yankees received an incredible pitching performance of their own

Despite the Yankees' offense going silent, left-hander Ryan Weathers. Over eight innings, Weathers allowed seven hits, one earned run, and struck out seven.

Right-hander Paul Blackburn also pitched a solid inning of relief, striking out one and allowing one hit.
