Jose Altuve might just be getting old.
But whatever the reason, the Houston Astros' 35-year old legend is far from his usual self this season.
Altuve is batting just .253, with a .303 on-base percentage and .376 slugging.
He's also been awful in left field.
Altuve's bad fielding and underwhelming hitting have actually made him rate statistically as worse than a replacement-level player.
Altuve's Wins Above Replacement so far this season? Negative-0.6.

Some have speculated that Altuve would improve if he got to return to his classic second base position.
Other wonder if Altuve is heading toward the twilight of his career and eventual retirement.
Whatever the reason, Altuve simply hasn't been good enough for Houston.
And if the 5-foot-6 dynamo doesn't turn it around, the door will keep closing on his phenomenal MLB career.
