Astros GM teases exciting trade news: 'We're not done yet'

The Houston Astros are, just like the rest of the Major League Baseball world, gathering for the beginning of camp ahead of Spring Training.

With new additions like Tatsuya Imai, Mike Burrows, and the most recent pickup, Joey Loperfido, joining the team, the Astros will get a good look at how the roster stacks up in the coming weeks.

After making that Loperfido trade, sending Jesus Sanchez to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Astros general manager, Dana Brown, teased some very exciting trade news. As Chandler Rome of The Athletic shares, Brown revealed the Astros aren't done trading just yet.

Brown said, "We're not done yet," in reference to the Astros trade plans. Rome followed that with a report on what that means right now for Houston.

"The Astros are still engaged in multiple trade talks involving their infield surplus," Rome reported.

The Houston infield has been a major issue that needs addressing this offseason. While they could enter the 2026 season without making any moves, the surplus wouldn't do the Astros any good.

Jeremy Pena has shortstop locked down, Jose Altuve is at second base, and Carlos Correa is at third base. That leaves Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes for first base.

With Yordan Alvarez expected to stick at designated hitter all year, the Astros can only start one of Paredes or Walker all season.

Splitting their time makes little sense, with Walker still a decent slugger and Paredes an All-Star in 2025. Trading one of them makes the most sense.

While they've not been able to find a landing spot just yet, the Astros are currently engaged in trade talks to resolve this issue.

Brown is in trade talks to clear up the infield logjam, and as he teased following the Loperfido trade with the Blue Jays, Houston isn't done making moves just yet.
