American former rapper and record producer Sean “Diddy” Combs’ release date from federal prison has been revealed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. According to NBC News, the 55-year-old record executive is expected to spend roughly three years behind bars, weeks after he was sentenced to 50 months.

Sean “Diddy” Combs, whose trial ended in a split verdict, is expected to be released from federal lockup on May 8, 2028. The rap power was found guilty of violating the Mann Act and was sent to prison on two counts of interstate prostitution, with credit provided for the time he served while awaiting his lengthy trial this summer.

After the release date of Diddy from prison was revealed, American blogger and columnist Perez Hilton shared his reaction. On Monday, October 27, 2025, the media personality quipped in his blog:

“Diddy can start his countdown. Sigh. We now know exactly when he’ll be released from prison… Of course, this is assuming President Donald Trump doesn’t step in and free his old pal earlier!”

Notably, Perez Hilton’s comments about the US President Donald Trump in connection to Combs’ prison release came a week after TMZ reported that the politician was considering commuting his sentence. Last week on Monday, the outlet cited a “high-ranking White House official” saying that the president was “vacillating” on a commutation for the music mogul “as early as this week.”

Meanwhile, in an article published on October 21, 2025, NBC News reported that a White House official has pushed back on TMZ’s report, saying:

“There is zero truth to the TMZ report, which we would’ve gladly explained had they reached out before running their fake news. The President, not anonymous sources, is the final decider on pardons and commutations.”

Responding to this, Casey Carver, a spokesperson for TMZ, reportedly said, “We stand by our story.”

The headline-grabbing legal proceedings saw Sean Combs being acquitted on more serious charges of racketeering and s*x trafficking, pleading not guilty. While the musician has maintained his innocence on the same, the jury found him guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution.

Although prosecutors had reportedly pushed for the rapper to serve 11 years behind bars, his criminal conviction gave him 4 years and 2 months in prison. Meanwhile, in addition to the prison term of 50 months, the judge also ordered a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release.

The eight-week trial also saw two of Combs’ ex-girlfriends taking the witness stand, including Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who spent days testifying against him and described drug-fueled “freak-off” parties. Federal prosecutors allegedly accused Combs of coercing and manipulating the women by using his position in the entertainment industry to participate in s*xual acts with paid s*x workers.

While Sean Combs reportedly did not testify in court, he adressed his part in a letter before his sentencing. According to NBC News, the musician addressed U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, writing:

“I lost my way. I got lost in my journey. Lost in the drugs and the excess. My downfall was rooted in my selfishness.”

For the unversed, Sean “Diddy” Combs has been detained since he was arrested in September 2024. When he is released from prison, he will reportedly be required to attend regular meetings with a probation officer.

Combs is also reportedly ordered to refrain from using drugs. He will be regularly drug-tested and must live in a residence which is approved by his probation officer.
