Arsenal to battle Man City in their pursuit of £86m Real Madrid starlet

3 hours ago 1

Arsenal are prepared for a big summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta aims to revamp the roster with the sole intention of challenging Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title.

They are all set to finish second once again in the Premier League, which will be their third consecutive season of finishing behind the league leaders.

The Gunners were massively shorthanded in attack this season with injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. Meanwhile, Bukayo Saka also has had his fair share of injury troubles. So, the team management are desperate to invest a large sum in attackers.

While the North Londoners have been linked with several forwards, recent reports on Spanish publication Relevo suggest that Arsenal have enquired about Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes, who may leave the Spanish capital this summer.

According to reports, the talks are still in a preliminary stage, but the interest from Arsenal is genuine. They have been linked to  every prodigious striker and winger ahead of this summer and Rodrygo also joins that list.

The Gunners will surely weigh all their options before finalising a deal, but the prospect of signing the Brazil international from Real Madrid is enticing for the North Londoners at the moment.

Manchester City are reportedly also interested in the 24-year-old, with other Premier League clubs, Manchester United and Liverpool, also monitoring the situation. But Arsenal are currently the front-runners as they have initiated talks regarding a potential move.

Will Rodrygo fit into Mikel Arteta's tactical setup?

As per reports on Marca, Rodrygo is unsettled in Madrid, especially after the arrival of Kylian Mbappe. The young winger doesn't feel appreciated enough and has flown under the radar with the likes of Vinicius Jr., Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham hogging most of the limelight.

Rodrygo Goes

The winger is also not happy with his omission from the Ballon d'Or top 20 shortlist. He believes that he has delivered enough convincing performances for Los Blancos to command that respect.

However, the 24-year-old is currently going through a goal drought, having scored only one goal and one assist in the last 22 games.

Despite that, he has netted 12 goals and provided nine assists in 50 appearances for the club this season. These are respectable numbers in a team with a stacked attacking line.

His current contract runs till 2028, and therefore, Real Madrid are under no pressure to sell. Hence, reports are suggesting that the Spanish outfit can demand anything around €100 million (£86m) for the Brazil international.

Rodrygo also seamlessly fits in Arteta's system with his versatility to play in multiple positions in attack. He is also battle-hardened given his performances in the Chanpions League.

He will also allow Arteta to seamlessly rotate between him, Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. The Spanish coach will also have the option to start all three of them upfront given his versatility.
