Are the Yankees calling up Spencer Jones? Jasson Dominguez injury creates immediate question

1 hour ago 3

The New York Yankees have avoided the Spencer Jones question up until now.

But with Jasson Dominguez carted off the field Thursday at Yankee Stadium due to injury, it may be time to answer it.

The 6-foot-7 slugging outfielder has spent the season so far at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Dominguez got the call first when the Yanks encountered injury troubles.

But if Dominguez has to miss time, it may finally be Jones' turn.

Are the Yankees calling up Spencer Jones?

That's a question that may not get answered until Thursday evening or sometime this weekend.

They'll first have to figure out what the scoop is with Dominguez and then figure out the appropriate roster maneuvers that go with it.

Because Jose Caballero and Max Schuemann can play the outfield, the Yanks could always call-up Anthony Volpe to get infield time while those two help out in the grass.

But it could also be time for Jones.

Jones has a .958 OPS at Triple-A so far this season. He has hit 11 home runs and stolen seven bases.

And unlike Dominguez, Jones is a solid defender, usually playing centerfield for the RailRiders.

He's going to get his chance eventually. Maybe this is finally the news that brings along his promotion.
