The Minnesota Vikings made some waves earlier this offseason when the team fired now-former general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
While the Vikings failed to make the playoffs last season, the firing was still surprising at the time. Nevertheless, it put the Vikings in the GM market.
Minnesota decided to hold off until hiring a new general manager until after the 2026 NFL Draft, but the team is now speaking to candidates.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Vikings are set to interview six external candidates, including:
- Los Angeles Chargers assistant GM Chad Alexander
- San Francisco 49ers assistant GM RJ Gillen
- Buffalo Bills assistant GM Terrance Gray
- Los Angeles Rams assistant GM John McKay
- Seattle Seahawks assistant GM Nolan Teasely
- Tennessee Titans assistant GM Dave Ziegler
Vikings executive vice president and current acting general manager, Rob Brzezinski, is also up for the job.
Of course, it's possible the Vikings could consider more candidates, but this is the list we have for now. This list also makes the Vikings Rooney Rule compliant.
Whoever takes over will have a tall task in helping to turn around a team that went from 14 wins and the playoffs in 2024 to a playoff-less nine-win season in 2025.
The biggest question mark is at quarterback, where the team might move away from J.J. McCarthy in 2026 after signing Kyler Murray.
If McCarthy is indeed on the outs in Minnesota and Murray doesn't cement himself as a long-term answer, the next general manager will be tasked with finding the Vikings' next franchise quarterback.
