Anthony Davis injury update: Latest news on Mavericks star after exiting vs. Pacers amid Achilles injury

11 hours ago 3

The Dallas Mavericks have gotten off to a rocky start as they await Kyrie Irving's return from a torn ACL, and new health concerns for Anthony Davis are already threatening to make matters worse.

Davis, who started Wednesday's game against the Indiana Pacers despite being on the injury report, exited after only six minutes of action and did not return as the Mavericks faced their former coach, Rick Carlisle.

While the Mavericks offense has been hit-and-miss early in the season, Davis came into Wednesday's contest on a streak of three consecutive 25-point games.

Here are the latest injury updates on Davis.

Update: Davis is expected to miss at least the next two games with a low-grade calf strain. His first chance to return will be Nov. 5 against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Davis was ruled out Wednesday night due to left lower-leg soreness.

Davis was on the Mavericks' injury report on Wednesday due to "bilateral Achilles tendinopathy," more commonly known as Achilles tendinitis that causes soreness in the back of the ankle. While Dallas didn't call Davis' injury an Achilles issue, he was spotted rubbing his lower left leg near the Achilles before leaving the game.

There is no indication Davis suffered any kind of serious injury, but the Mavericks understandably want to be as cautious as possible early in the season with any injury related to the Achilles.

Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said after the game that Davis tried to return, but the team opted to play it safe. "We'll see how he feels going forward," Kidd told reporters.

Davis hasn't dealt with many major injuries in his career, but the list of minor-to-moderate injuries that have forced him to miss time is quite long. Davis has played more than 62 games in only one of the past seven seasons, and the injury bug bit him again in his Mavericks debut this past February when he suffered an adductor strain that sidelined him for six weeks.

The superstar is also expected to miss the Mavericks' game against the Detroit Pistons in Mexico City.

Anthony Davis is expected to be ruled out of Dallas’ game Saturday in Mexico City against Detroit after exiting Wednesday night with left lower leg soreness.
