Angel Reese sending heartfelt message to Dream rookie after breakout performance originally appeared to be a routine postgame celebration for the Atlanta Dream. Instead, it turned into one of the more wholesome moments of the young WNBA season.
The Dream rolled to a 97-84 victory over the Toronto Tempo on Monday night behind a balanced offensive attack. While stars like Angel Reese, Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray all made significant contributions, it was rookie center Madina Okot who stole the spotlight.
The No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft delivered the best performance of her professional career, scoring a career-high 18 points while adding seven rebounds off the bench. It was the type of breakout game every rookie hopes for, and one that quickly caught the attention of her teammates.
Madina Okot delivers career night for Atlanta
Atlanta received production throughout its lineup in the win. Howard paced the Dream with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Gray added 18 points and five steals. Reese finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, and veteran guard Jordin Canada chipped in 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Still, Okot's emergence became one of the biggest storylines from the game.
The rookie center, who has spent much of the season carving out a role in Atlanta's rotation, showcased her potential with an efficient offensive performance and active presence on the glass. Following the victory, the Dream named Okot their Player of the Game on social media.
"Go off, Rook," the team wrote while celebrating her career-best outing.
For a player averaging just 4.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in limited minutes entering the game, the performance represented a significant step forward.

Perhaps the most notable reaction came from Reese. The Dream star shared the team's celebratory post on her Instagram story and offered a heartfelt message to her rookie teammate.
"So proud of you," Reese wrote, adding an emotional face-holding-back-tears emoji.
The response highlighted the close-knit culture Atlanta has built this season and showed the support Reese has for one of the franchise's youngest players. For Okot, the encouraging words from one of the WNBA's biggest stars were likely just as meaningful as the career-high point total.

A glimpse of what could be ahead
At just 21 years old, Okot remains one of the more intriguing developmental prospects on Atlanta's roster. Her role has been limited through the first 16 games of the season, but Monday's performance offered a glimpse of what the Dream may have in the future.
With veterans leading the way and young talent continuing to develop behind the scenes, Atlanta appears to be building valuable depth as the season progresses.
And if Reese's reaction was any indication, nobody was happier to see Okot's breakthrough than her teammates.
