Andy Reid places the blame after Kansas City Chiefs fall to Eagles at home

The Kansas City Chiefs dropped to 0-2 after a 20-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in their highly anticipated home opener at Arrowhead Stadium. The game marked a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, but instead of redemption, the night ended in more frustration for Patrick Mahomes and his teammates.

Chiefs stumble in Super Bowl rematch

Mahomes put up decent numbers, completing 16 of 29 passes for 187 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He added 66 rushing yards and a score on the ground. Still, a costly turnover in the fourth quarter, a tipped pass that slipped through Travis Kelce’s hands, shifted momentum and left Kansas City short.

Reid points the finger at himself

After the loss, head coach Andy Reid didn’t hesitate to accept responsibility. Speaking with reporters, the 67-year-old coach said the defeat fell on him, citing mistakes on the sideline rather than putting blame on his players.

“I’ll take full responsibility for that game,” Reid told the media.

While Mahomes’ interception will be replayed on highlight reels, Reid made it clear the issue went deeper than one turnover. He emphasized that the coaching staff failed to put the team in the best position to win.

Looking ahead to Week 3

The road doesn’t get easier for Kansas City. Next up is a primetime trip to MetLife Stadium to face the New York Giants. A third straight loss to open the season would be uncharted territory for a franchise used to dominance under Reid and Mahomes.
