Analyst names Pro Bowl QB as Steelers option amid Aaron Rodgers uncertainty

1 hour ago 3

Exactly what the Pittsburgh Steelers will do at the quarterback position is going to be a fascinating watch over the next couple of weeks.

With Aaron Rodgers reportedly to decide on his future before the NFL Draft, we won't have to wait long to find out what he will do. It does feel like he'll come back for another year.

But what if he doesn't?

Will Howard and Mason Rudolph are the options for new head coach Mike McCarthy, but could the franchise look to add a proper starter?

Bleacher Report's Moe Moton has named San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones as a potential candidate for the Steelers if Rodgers retires.

"New Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has a strong track record with quarterbacks, particularly in the early development of Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott in his prime," Moton wrote. "He could help Jones have a Sam Darnold-like career turnaround in Pittsburgh."

Is Jones a good QB option?

He could certainly give the Steelers something different.

We saw what Jones did last season with the 49ers, to the point where some thought he could start over Brock Purdy.

In Pittsburgh, he'll have Jaylen Warren, Rico Dowdle, and two receivers in DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. to throw to. That's a good-looking offense.

Would the Steelers want to part ways with what would likely be a first-round pick to acquire Jones, though? That is the big talking point here, but if Rodgers does retire, Jones isn't a bad option to come and fill in.
