The Los Angeles Dodgers are off to an electric start as usual, with their super team having a record of 11-4 and first place in the NL West. However, while they are arguably already the best, that hasn’t stopped them from constantly upgrading their team.
While they don’t have to anymore, there’s a few moves they could make to make themselves borderline unstoppable. One of those moves is one that FanSided’s Zachary Rotman proposed: trading with the Houston Astros for their All-Star third baseman, Isaac Paredes.
The trade would look like this:
Dodgers get: 3B Isaac Paredes
Astros get: INF Alex Freeland, LAD No. 19 prospect OF/1B Ryan Ward
“If you didn't like the first Astros-Dodgers mock trade, perhaps this one will make more sense. The Dodgers don't need Isaac Paredes, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be an interesting fit. Paredes crushes left-handed pitching, as his career .804 OPS against southpaws would suggest, making him an ideal platoon partner with Max Muncy at the hot corner, and he can play three of the four infield positions, allowing him to give Freddie Freeman and Tommy Edman off-days at first base and second base, respectively. He'd be a luxury, and one the Dodgers can easily afford,” Rotman wrote.
So far this season, Paredes is slashing .222/.349/.333/.682 with four doubles and six RBI. However, he’d platoon with Max Muncy primarily, who’s hitting .267/.365/.533/.899 with four homers and RBI. Allowing these two to face the pitching they love consistently would only make them hit better.
He’d be very affordable too, as Rotman notes, as he’s only set to make $9.4 million this season. He then has a club option for $13.4 million next season, so it wouldn’t have to be a rental.
If the Dodgers can figure out a way to do this, they better. It would cause the MLB to groan, and make them one step closer to a threepeat.
